In keeping with the mission of MINKA Brooklyn to serve as a healers-led space for wellness, holistic living, and anti-racism, MINKA is hosting a 5-hour, one-day retreat for men of African descent. Thriving as Black Man in New York City, aims to give black men tools for self-healing and self-care that they can use individually, but learn and experience collectively. +For participants to share with and educate each other their insights, experiences and knowledge regarding self-care of the body, the mind, and the spirit +For participants to directly experience new methods of self-care and/or self-healing +To form and strengthen relationships among black men in a healing environment +To welcome Black Men to Minka as a space for community and self-healing +To promote the continued practice of active self-care and holistic wellness among black men in the New York metro area.
Schedule of Events
11:00 A.M - 11:30 A.M. Libations - Participants will individually and collectively set their intentions for the day during a guided meditation. We will call upon the energies that gathered us in the space. We will also create 5 to 10 agreements about how we will communicate and conduct ourselves.
11:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Panel Circle Discussion - panelists in the fields of mental health (i.e., a psychotherapist), physical health (i.e., a medical doctor), and spiritual health (Baba Erwin) will field questions posed by moderator Kelsey Anderson. The questions will center around the well-being of black men in NYC, in mind, body and spirit.
1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. Lunch Break- Lunch Provided
2:00 P.M. - 3:30 P.M. Reiki, Ear acupuncture, and Herbalism
3:30 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. Participants share their key takeaways and lessons learned from the retreat; Closing remarks
